CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers have previously stated how weddings are sacred on this show and it generally takes an act of God to stop them. Still, that doesn’t mean the showrunners don’t try to mess things up from time to time. In this case, it’s Kevin Fisher (Greg RIkaart) and Jana Hawkes (Emily O’Brien)’s wedding from August 18, 2008.

Everything was set with their friends and family gathered around for the event in Malibu, California and the official is ready to proceed until Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc) notices something about the man presiding over the wedding.

There are some faces that are never forgotten, such as a deadbeat father. In this case, Michael recognized his father, Lowell Baldwin (Michael Gross), who was going by the name River. Seeing him also set off Gloria Abbott (Judith Chapman), and she demanded to know where he’d been. At this point, Kevin silenced everyone as it was his and Jana’s wedding and he refused to allow anyone or anything interfere.

It’s something that CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers have noticed and appreciate about the show. Where others may go for cheap tricks or other problems to postpone most of their weddings, Y&R focus more on having the ceremony. It shows the love of the couple is greater than the distractions life can throw at them. But the fun doesn’t end here.

Once the ceremony concluded, Gloria managed to corner her former husband and let him have it, challenging him for running out on her and leaving her alone with Michael and ho they lived in poverty. She of course didn’t hesitate to point out how good a man Michael had grown into without River’s help.

After she was done with him, River had a bought of conscience and went to Michael to explain why he left. He claimed he’d been running from the government for years. Michael responded by explaining how he worried about his son, who had to stay in Wisconsin because he was ill. Michael then asked if River was ever worried about him. River’s response was that he was the man he chose to be, and not the one Michael needed.

They eventually separated, with emotions warring inside of Michael. He’d spent years wondering who his father was and what type of person he was, and now he felt like he found the end of his journey, nothing River was nothing more than a sperm donor. Nothing like a family oriented episode, right? What’s the biggest wedding surprise you’ve seen?
