CBS ‘The Young And The Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers is saying that we can’t believe it either that on February 3rd it will have been a year since Kristoff St. John passed away. He was best known for his portrayal of Neil Winters on ‘Young and The Restless’ from 1991 to 2019. For 25 years he played on Y&R, and until him there had been no other African American actors who featured quite so regularly on the soap. He was nominated for best younger actor on a daytime series just a year into his tenure on Y&R and went onto be nominated for best outstanding supporting actor in 2007.
His storied career didn’t start at Y&R, before this he starred in the ‘Days of Our Lives’ spin-off Generations as Adam Marshall and was there from its inception in 1989 to the time of its cancellation in 1991. Generations was historical because it was the first fully intergrated soap opera. It featured prominent African American families that were main characters instead of just side characters. Even today you could argue that there is no other soap on-air that does this. But St. John was a trailblazer, and all of us fans can certainly appreciate that.

He was also in other things such as the ABC mini-series, Roots: The Next Generation, Happy Days, he played a bit part on one of the early episodes of the Cosby Show as one of Denise’s boyfriends, and his first starring role was in the CBS Sitcom Charlie & Co. as Charlie Richmond.
St. John was a vegan and animal rights advocate and appeared in two ads for PETA. He was married and divorced twice, at the time of his death he was engaged to Russian model Kseniya Olegovna Mikhaleva. He was proceeded in death by his son, Julian, who had died in 2014 after losing his struggle with mental illness. St. John died alone at his residence, but it doesn’t seem like he was all that lonely. In an interview with Dr. Oz that aired on February 22nd, 2019, former wife Mia St. John stated that he was on the phone with her shortly before it happened and told her that Julian was there and that he was going to go for a walk with him. That was the last thing she ever heard from St. John. She would have gone over herself to see about him but at the time she was 2 hours away and could not get to him in time. It was his family that found him, his death was eventually determined to be from a stroke. We will always remember Kristoff St. John and his great performances.
