CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers indicate that star Melody Thomas Scott recently opened up about how and why Nikki and Victor Newman continue to be one of the most, if not the most influential couple in the soap world. Here’s what she has to say.
Speaking to Daytime Confidential in a new interview, the beautiful blonde admitted that there are plenty of factors that have contributed to her successful pairing with actor Eric Braeden (Victor Newman).
After all, a lot of soap stars would admit that Nikki Newman and Victor Newman are one of the last of the super couples of the daytime television world.

Melody told the site, “The first has to be Bill Bell’s genius in choosing to bring our characters together. He saw something in us that we didn’t, initially. But it didn’t take long for Eric and me to realize that, yes, there is some element of magic that takes over when we work together. And, yes, I’m going to say the “C” word…Chemistry. So difficult to describe. Don’t mean to get all woo, but our souls love to dance together when the camera’s red light comes on. Most importantly, Eric and I completely trust one another. That sets a certain comfort between us. Whether Victor and Nikki are fighting, loving, or indeed, not saying one word to each other, our dancing souls are driving the scene. “
Melody also admitted that ‘Young and the Restless’ era of the late 80s and the early 90s was certainly one for the books, especially with her messy love triangle that also involved Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson). In fact, that time was also Y&R’s best ratings for the show.
Melody said that she certainly loved that era too as it was a great mix of lushness and drama. She said, “The story was so fraught with conflict; the fans felt quite strongly about who they wanted to have ended up with whom. I also found it so interesting that Nikki and Ashley were such polar opposites, yet Victor was deeply in love with both of them.”
