CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers indicates that on Tuesday, June 25, we see the performance that awarded Peter Bergman his second Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor. Bergman wows critics as he expresses his frustration about his wife’s drinking to his father, John Abbott (Jerry Douglas). The episode was first aired in November 1991.

As Jack is struggling with Nikki Newman’s, then Abbot, (Melody Thomas Scott) drinking, his sister, Ashley Abbott (Shari Shattuck) is working to stir the pot. Nikki wakes up from a complete blackout (looking rather good, I must say), and finally Jack has had enough! He storms out of the house and heads to his father’s home. It’s obvious that Jack is torn – and heartbroken – over his wife’s drinking. And he’s turning to his dad for advice, perhaps.

Meanwhile, Ashley is begging her ex-husband, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) to get involved. Silly girl, doesn’t she just know he will end up marrying the binge drinker instead? Victor is quick to blow Ashley off. Not his circus, not his monkeys. Ashley takes matters into her own hands and tries to have an adult conversation with Nikki which isn’t productive at all.

As all of this drama is going on, Jill Abbott (Jess Walton) wants Dina Abbott (Marla Adams) out of the picture. How is she going to do that? Hire Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) and Nathan (Nathan Purdee) to blackmail her, of course. After all, it is daytime television. All around, it was an episode full of drama, questionable decisions, and unlikely relationships. I think we can all agree that Nikki and Jack should have never happened. News flash: Maybe she’s drinking because she’s married to the man that she isn’t meant to be married to. I digress. What did you think of the episode.
