CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers finds that we are ready to close the week out with some throwback spoilers. Like the rest of the episodes during this Emmy Week theme, this one has an amazing performance by a Daytime Emmy winner. We’ve seen episodes were our older favorites have won over the years, and now we get the youngest addition to this week’s list.
Originally airing on July 19, 1999, this episode’s performance by Camryn Grimes won her the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actress for portraying Cassie Newman during her plea to the judge to allow Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) to get custody of her. It’s a stirring and emotional scene that allowed us to see what Camryn was capable of doing when she really sunk her teeth into a scene. A pretty cool note from another perspective is earlier this week we got to see her debut when she stepped off the bus in Genoa City for the first time. Overall, it’s been a pretty busy week for Cassie, but one we’ve enjoyed watching.

Following hearing everyone’s arguments, the judge was ready to rule against Sharon and Nick getting custody of Cassie. It’s the type of story we’ve seen play out on various shows and movies for years, and it almost always comes down to the child convincing the judge that she’s happy and belongs with the family. Of course, many times we don’t have a clue as to which way the judge is going to rule, and in that sense, there wasn’t a lot of suspense waiting for us to see how it played out. Then Cassie entered with the social worker, and the judge was told that Cassie wanted to be heard.

There was some discussion where it was explained to the judge that Cassie testifying won’t harm her, but not allowing her to say what she feels could hurt her more. So, with the decision made, the judge called Cassie Newman up to the stand and allowed her to express her thoughts and feelings. Cassie explained that she’d try to be happy if she was ordered to go with Alice Johnson (Tamara Clatterbuck), but if she had a choice, she’d prefer to live with her mom and Nick. She explained that she knew there were problems with Nick and Sharon, but that she also knew they always loved each other

After promising the decision won’t take long, the judge eventually rules custody to Nick and Sharon for six months, and hoped that at that time they would consider adopting Cassie. CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers have to admit that the outcome wasn’t a surprise as it’s pretty regular, but Camryn’s performance on the stand was awesome and is worth watching a few times.
