CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers finds that one of the strongest dichotomies on the show is that of Jill Abbott (Jess Walton) and Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper). Jill was Katherine’s long-lost daughter on the daytime drama, and it came with its fair share of ups and downs. On-screen, their relationship began as bitter and tumultuous. However, over time, it became sweeter and more nurturing. Offscreen, the two shared a genuine friendship.
Jeanne Cooper, who was born on October 25, 1928, was the eighth longest-serving soap opera actor in the United States. Unfortunately, she passed away on May 8, 2013, from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease shortly after she celebrated her 40th anniversary on Y&R. Despite her sudden and heartbreaking demise, Cooper was loved for both her roles onscreen and offscreen. She was a mother of 3 and grandmother of 8. Her film career began in the 1950s, though she was most recognized for her role as Katherine Chancellor.

With the passing of her anniversary, Jess Walton was the first to take to Instagram and share a sweet tribute to her real-life friend, “Sweet Jeanne, for 26 years you were my playmate, my partner in crime. I marveled at your life force time and time again. You are magnificent, my friend, and I love you. I can’t wait to play with you again.” Other actors from the show commented, including Diana Barton, known for her role as Mari Jo Mason, “You loved each other so much.”
