CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers finds that executive producer Anthony Morina recently opened up about the soap’s win for Outstanding Drama Series and this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards. Here’s what he has to say.

Morina said that winning the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series meant a lot to him, seeing how the soap went through so much emotionally this year. He told Soap Opera Digest in a new interview, “It means an enormous amount because of losing Kristoff St. John (Neil Winters), Mrs. Lee Phillip Bell and our supervising producer Liza de Cazotte. My wife had a long friendship with Lee and really thought the world of her, I’ve known Kristoff since Generations when he was in his early 20s and I not only worked with Lisa, she was also a personal friend, so winning meant a lot to me because I was able to say their names to the audience.”

Morina added, “A lot of people are watching because everyone is home. I heard later from Lisa’s husband and some of Kristoff’s friends that they were so appreciative to hear their names on television. So it really meant a lot to acknowledge these people during a tough time.”

The Y&R head honcho also admitted that Neil’s death and the funeral scenes were the episodes that were the most emotional for not only him, but for the entire cast and crew, too. Morina further explained, “We had a good year and those two shows were submitted because there was something spiritual and unique the days we show them. For us, it was a memorial for Kristoff. All of the speeches at Neil’s funeral were in one take and there were no rehearsals because the actors were already emotionally on the edge waiting for weeks to say something about Kristoff and these shows gave them the opportunity to do that. It was a raw and powerful but loving experience.”
