CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers finds that another classic episode was played for ‘Young and the Restless’ fans on Monday, May 11th. Producers took viewers back to June 30, 1998 with another riveting episode with the talented acting skills of the beautiful Jeanne Cooper, who plays the veteran Y&R character, Katherine Chancellor. Over the past several weeks, we have been reminded of Katherine’s nasty battle with alcoholism and her struggles with her long-lost daughter Jill Abbott (Jess Walton). Viewers even saw a softer side to the heiress at her wedding.

On the soap today, Jill berated her mother, blaming her for everything she has ever lost. Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) responded with fiery Chancellor anger – calling her daughter every name in the book. The scene begins as Jill is sorting through Katherine’s attic in hopes of finding money from the deceased Phillip Chancellor. However, her mother caught her snooping, which quickly led to tempers flaring. Jill told Katherine that Phillip never loved her, in which Katherine responded by calling her daughter a whore and pushing her. The two women began rolling around in a physical altercation until Jill started strangling her. Jill let go before Katherine lost consciousness.

A genuinely touching mother-daughter moment. However, viewers are accustomed to seeing Jill and Katherine in violent arguments. Long-time viewers know that the two women eventually patch up and make amends, leading to an entirely healthy relationship before Katherine passes away. Though the episode was quite ugly and suspenseful, it’s nice to know that in a few years, the waters will begin to smooth out. Over the past few decades, Jill and Katherine have had one of the most notable rivalries in  ‘Young and the Restless’ history – almost as intense as that of Victor and Jack or Sharon and Phyllis. As time passed, we’ve also seen Victor and Jack make amends as well. Stay tuned for more Y&R flashbacks later this week.
