CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers finds that nearly six weeks ago, producers announced that they would be taking a filming hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. To keep their actors and staff safe, Y&R had called a two-week break period. However, Jason Thompson, who plays Billy Abbott on the daytime drama, took to Global News to discuss the hiatus that has now spanned six weeks and how it has affected his family.
With the halting of production lasting much longer than anyone had expected, Y&R producers are now playing reruns of older episodes to keep their audience entertained during the pandemic. However, nobody is immune to the virus. Greg Rikaart, who plays Kevin Fisher, announced that he had been diagnosed with COVID-19, and Jason Thompson’s vacation plans took a turn for the worst once traveling went dark and borders had been shut down.

CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ News: Jason Thompson Updates On Filming Hiatus
Global News’ Gord Steinke interviewed Thompson in Edmonton, AB, the hometown of Thompson. He explained that he was going to take a much-needed vacation when Y&R producers announced a shutdown – his family had planned to travel to Mexico before borders closed and planes grounded.
According to Thompson, “They just kind of let us know that they were going to keep us in the loop. [Deciding when we will come back] is a bigger decision: Sony is involved, CBS is involved, of course, our stage is involved, so there’s a lot of people. We get updates at least about once a week, kind of letting us know where we’re at and if we should expect anything, but we have no idea when we may be back.”
Thompson is currently social-distancing in Los Angeles, but he admits to missing his family in Canada. He co-owns some local bars in Edmonton, and he reports that they are taking this time to do some renovations inside for reopening. With talk of Canada and United States planning to reopen within the next month or so, it’ll be interesting to see when producers decide to open up filming again.
