Sam Lewis became the first woman to be named a beauty queen in both America and the UK, after beating breast cancer.

When she was 37, the 47-year-old school PE teacher and dance instructor found the lump on her breast while showering. She delayed seeing her doctor for seven days because she was so busy. After all, she had plenty to keep herself occupied.

She was married to her husband, Andrew, as they shared three children: Sharna, Annabelle, and Henry. With that being said, the last thing she expected was anything untoward.

In her comments, she said: “I was always super fit, so cancer was the last thing I expected it to be. I wasn’t worried at all. No one in my family had ever had cancer and I was only 37 and thought I had my whole life ahead of me.”

However, doctors told Sam that she had stage-two-breast cancer after she had mammograms and scans. She underwent chemotherapy, a mastectomy and radiotherapy in order to tackle the problem. While there is no sign of the cancer now, it did leave her wondering what could have happened.

She added: “I was so relieved when the doctors removed my breast. It had done its job breastfeeding my three kids, so I just wanted it gone. I was exhausted from the treatment.”

But through it all, she managed to come out of it on the other side. She decided to enter into beauty contests to improve her confidence and wellbeing. The results were impressive indeed, despite the initial trepidation, as she came second in Miss British Empire in 2018.

In addition, a year later, she did one better by winning Mrs Elite Global Earth. And she marked the victory in the most unique of ways. Her following comments confirmed as much: “I held a knitted boob with me on stage after I’d won.”
