Former Footballer Samuel Eto'o Apologises After Allegedly Kneeing An Algerian Youtuber At The FIFA World Cup

Former footballer Samuel Eto’o has expressed a less-than-sincere apology after becoming involved in an altercation with an Algerian YouTuber at the Qatar World Cup.

Footage captured showed him allegedly using his knee to strike the person while he was exiting the stadium in the aftermath of Brazil’s 4-1 over South Korea.

There were claims that Eto’o became angry when a supporter, identified as Said Mamouni, enquired if he had provided a bribe to the officials prior to Cameroon’s essential win over Algeria. This win allowed them to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.

The ex-sportsman challenged the allegation-but he put out a public announcement saying sorry for his behaviour, though it’s obvious he was still disgruntled. In his comments, he said: “On 5 December, after the Brazil-South Korea match, I had a violent altercation with a person who was probably an Algerian supporter.

“I would like to apologise for losing my temper and reacting in a way that does not match my personality. I apologise to the public for this unfortunate incident.”

This isn’t the first time that the 41-year-old has been in the news for something other than football. In June of this year, he was given a 22-month suspended jail term for not disclosing the £3m income he made from the sale of his image rights.

Not only that, but it is not exactly clear if Eto’o has actually taken some steps to issue a personal apology to the person that was on the back end of his aggressive behaviour. Regardless of what the case may have been, he has vowed to continue responding to any acts of intimidation.

His following comments confirmed as much: “I pledge to continue to resist the relentless provocation and daily harassment of some Algerian supporters. Indeed, since the Cameroon-Algeria match on 29th March in Blida.”

It is fair to say that Eto’o has made his stance clear. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
