It’s official: y’all! Caitlyn Jenner, former Gold Olympian and member of the Kardashian family, wants to be your new governor of the great state of California. The reality television star has launched her bid for the governorship, as the effort to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom is quickly moving forward. Here’s what you need to know.

In a press release posted on Twitter on Friday, Caitlyn, a longtime Republican, said that she’d make a “formal announcement” in the “the coming weeks” and pitched herself as a “compassionate disruptor” who will campaign on “solutions” and “providing a roadmap back to prosperity” for the state.

Caitlyn Jenner Is Running For Governor Of California

“California has been my home for nearly 50 years. I came here because I knew that anyone, regardless of their background or station in life, could turn their dreams into reality.

But for the past decade, we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interests over people. Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision,” Jenner said.

Caitlyn also touted that she’s “a proven winner and the only outsider who can put an end to Gavin Newsom’s disastrous time as governor.”

Meanwhile, Gavin Newsom has seen his approval rating plummet in response to his strict lockdown measures he placed on businesses and the state’s closure of schools.

It’s been noted that neither of which played a strong role in actually stopping the spread of coronavirus in the state. As a result, a recall effort was launched that announced in mid-March it had reached nearly 2 million signatures, well above the 1.5 million needed to force an election.

Yet, Republicans see this as their first chance to win a statewide contest since the 2006 gubernatorial reelection victory by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was a moderate Republican.

If the Newsom recall qualifies for the ballot, voters would be asked two questions — first, whether the governor should be removed from office. And second – who should replace him.
