The parents of Kate Middleton, Michael, and Carole Middleton attended the fourth day of Wimbledon today, sparking questions about whether and when Princess Catherine will attend the tennis tournament.
Some wonder if Kate’s mom and dad were there on behalf of their daughter. Kate, who is still recovering from her cancer treatment, must adhere to her doctor’s advice.
Kate’s Stand-In, Prince William, May Also Be Unavailable To Hand Out Trophies
Even if Kate Middleton doesn’t show up, her stand-in, Prince William, may not be available either. His diary depends on Gareth Southgate, an English professional football team manager.
The team could compete in the Euro Championships final at Wimbledon last weekend. If neither attends, former President of the Lawn Tennis Association Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, and wife of Queen Elizabeth’s cousin, Prince Richard, may have to present trophies.
Carole and Michael were in the Royal Box with the Australian cricketer Pat Cummins and adventurer Bear Grylls. Attending Wimbledon is the second public appearance for Kate’s parents since she was diagnosed with cancer.
The couple appeared to be having a good time sitting in the Royal Box. They were entranced with the game, as today’s match was between Serbia’s Novak Djokovic. Carole showed up wearing a pretty floral-patterned dress, taking style cues from her daughter.
The Middletons enjoyed a conversation with Sebastian Coe, the current Head of the International Association of Athletics Federations, who observed him chatting it up and laughing with Carole. Last month, Carole and Michael appeared at Royal Ascot with the royal family.
William helped Kate’s mom after her heel got stuck in the grass and came off her foot. The always considerate Prince of Wales held his mother-in-law’s hand as she slipped her shoe back on as they both laughed at the humorous incident.
The All-England Club Is Hopeful Kate Will Make An Appearance
William has had to do this for Kate at one point. In 2013, Kate’s heel got stuck in a grate at the Irish Guards St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
The Prince held his wife’s arm to help support her as she got her bearings. The Middletons usually attend several days of Wimbledon but are typically only invited to sit in the Royal Box once each tournament.
Kate has been giving out trophies to Wimbledon champions since 2016. She also became patron of the All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Queen Elizabeth gave her this role when she passed the baton to Kate.
The Princess is an avid game fan and loves going to Wimbledon. She has attended countless matches. Kate attended the tennis competition in 2007 when she and William first started dating.
The All-England Club chair, Debbie Jevans, said that the club remains optimistic that Kate may still make an appearance at Wimbledon.
“We’re hopeful that the Princess of Wales will be able to present trophies as the Club’s patron, but her health and recovery is the priority,”
Jevans told Telegraph Sport.
“We don’t know what we don’t know. All we’ve said is that we’ll work with her and give her as much flexibility as possible.”
If Kate decides to go, it won’t be announced too long in advance, depending on how she feels on the day.
