British royal family news revealed yesterday that Kate Middleton and Prince William marked Canada Day this year by calling a hospital in British Columbia. The royal couple spoke to staff at the hospital to hear about how their lives have changed during lockdown, and about their experiences during the pandemic. Kate and William spoke to staff at Fraser Health’s Surrey Memorial Hospital.
Royal fans would have been delighted to see the couple take time out from their day to speak to staff in Canada to celebrate the landmark day. Kate and William have been busy on Zoom throughout lockdown, as they have spoken to a variety of people and charities in a bid to ensure that morale stays high throughout the pandemic.

It was a sweet sentiment by the couple to honour Canada Day by speaking to some key workers in the country, and William and Kate were keen to learn more about what life has been life for them during the pandemic. The royals both admitted that they have ‘admiration’ for the work that the staff have been doing over the past couple of months.
Another big reason for their call was to talk about the importance of mental health, and they were keen to find out how staff members were dealing with life. Mental health is something that is very close to William’s heart, and he has constantly reiterated that those working in the healthcare professional should be open about their struggles throughout the pandemic.

While it was Canada Day yesterday, it was revealed that the video call actually happened last year. The video wasn’t released to the public until yesterday however, as the royals wanted to mark the Canada Day celebrations. William also revealed in the call that he was looking forward to visiting the hospital in the future.
The call seemed to be warmly received by the staff at the hospital as they cheered when they saw Kate and William pop up on their screens. There was also a bit of fun at the beginning of the call as there was a slight problem with the picture, which meant the staff couldn’t see the royals to begin with.
