British Royal Family News says that the messy legal court battle between Meghan Markle, the British tabloids, and ultimately her estranged father Thomas Markle Sr., has just gotten a whole lot messier. In fact, there’s a new report that says the Duchess of Sussex has asked a British court to prevent newspapers from revealing the identities of the friends who defended her in a People Magazine article from last summer. However, a British newspaper is arguing that their identities are now in the public domain. Here’s what you need to know.

According to reports, Prince Harry’s wife is asking the Daily Mail to refrain from publishing the names of the five friends who previously defended her after her father allowed the publication to publish a private and confidential letter that was only meant for his eyes.

Apparently, the Daily Mail has threated to published the names of the five women who spoke to People Magazine anonymously. But because they are named in confidential court documents in the lawsuit, their condition of anonymity is also being questioned. “For the Mail on Sunday to expose them in the public domain for no reason other than clickbait and commercial gain is vicious and poses a threat to their emotional and mental well-being,’’ Meghan Markle said in the statement. “The Mail on Sunday is playing a media game with real lives.”

With that said, the Daily Mail claims that they have no intention of publishing the names of Meghan’s friends, but it is ultimately up to the court to decide on the confidentiality of the five women. “Their evidence is at the heart of the case, and we see no reason why their identities should be kept secret,″ a newspaper statement said. “That is why we told the duchess’s lawyers last week that the question of their confidentiality should be properly considered by the Court.”
