Both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made it no secret that they felt so miserable in their roles as full-time working members of the royal family that they packed their bags and left their lives behind in London for a new one in Los Angeles. To make matters worse, Meghan felt like she didn’t have an outlet to express herself, especially after so many British tabloid papers and publications continued to smear her throughout the time that she was a working royal.

“The go-to position [at the palace] was no comment or to ignore stories, and people actively prevented her from responding to stuff that we knew to be untrue,” a source close to Meghan and Harry tells People Magazine this week. “That is what she is taking issue with.” Even though Meghan’s legal team claims that the false reports caused “tremendous emotional stress” on her and especially during her pregnancy, a source close says that Meghan’s remarks in her legal documents in her case against her father Thomas Markle Sr. are not aimed at the royal family. The insider noted, “Some people are making [these documents] about individuals. It is about the [institution] as a whole and its practices.”
