One cultural secretary in the UK says that the television channel RT – which is also known as Russia Today – should never be allowed to broadcast their “poisonous propaganda” in the UK again. This comes after a week of nonstop fighting, bloodshed, and carnage after Russia’s invasion in an unprovoked attack of Ukraine. Here’s what you need to know.
According to new reports, culture secretary Nadine Dorries said she hopes Ofcom’s 27 investigations into the Kremlin-backed broadcaster will result in the removal of its license.

Speaking in the House of Commons, Dorries said Russian President Vladimir Putin “must not be allowed to exploit our open and free media to spread poisonous propaganda into British homes.”
Dorries continued: “I published the letter that I wrote to Ofcom shortly after I wrote it last week; they’ve launched 27 live investigations into Russia Today. I’m hoping they expedite those investigations and that those investigations result in the removal of Russia Today’s license so they’re never again able or have the platform to broadcast their propaganda into the UK.”
That said, the channel has been unavailable in the UK since Wednesday after Sky, Freesat and Freeview all removed it.
Other reports say that RT America will cease productions and lay off most of its staff. Misha Solodovnikov, the general manager of T&R Productions, told staff in the memo that it will be “ceasing production” at all of its locations “as a result of unforeseen business interruption events.”
“Unfortunately, we anticipate this layoff will be permanent, meaning that this will result in the permanent separation from employment of most T&R employees at all locations,” Solodovnikov wrote.
