The shooting on the set of the movie, Rust, has been all over the news since it happened and with it, we are reminded of the shooting on the set of the movie, the Crow. This happened 28 years ago in 1993 when Brandon Lee was accidentally shot by what the other actors thought was a prop gun. In light of the Rust shooting, his fiancee, Eliza Hutton, wanted to come out and share her thoughts and feelings about another movie set tragedy.
Hutton Opens Up
It was tough for Hutton when she found out what happened to Brandon on the set of the movie The Crow. Hutton, now 57, was in her twenties at the time, and Lee was 28.
The Crow Tragedy and The Rust Shooting
She told People magazine, “Twenty-eight years ago, I was shattered by the shock and grief of losing the love of my life, Brandon Lee, so senselessly. My heart aches again now for Halyna Hutchins’ husband and son, and for all those left in the wake of this avoidable tragedy. I urge those in positions to make change to consider alternative to real guns on set.” On her private Instagram account, she posted a picture with her and Lee when they were on vacation together in Italy. She captioned it, “There’s no such thing as a prop gun.”
Hutton and Lee were planning a wedding and there were to be married on April 17, 1993. That was right after The Crow would wrap and production would be done. Lee was killed on March 31st of that year, just days before the movie would be completed and the couple would get married. This devastated Hutton and the Lee family.
His father, Bruce Lee, was killed in an almost similar fashion on a movie set as well. His sister, Shannon Lee, also shared her thoughts about the gun tragedy and shared her feelings about her brother. She wrote on Twitter, “Our hearts go out to the family of Halyna Hutchings and to Joel Souza and all involved in the incident on Rust. No one should ever be killed by a gun on a film set. Period.”
The Rust shooting was incredibly tragic and of course, everyone involved has had a lot of trauma to get through. It has been a lot to process for Alec Baldwin, his family, and the families of the crew members as well. Our hearts go out to everyone involve and hopefully there will be a way to solve this issue.
