Beyonce’s Film On Disney+ ‘Black Is King’ Sparks Controversy On Instagram Post
So what’s the controversy? It lies in the comments, as several people have began discussing the name of the film. While it may seem like a silly thing to say something about, there are some things like make sense and some things that seem utterly ridiculous.
The top three comments come from one person defending the name of the film, while the other asks the question of why it’s okay to have the title ‘Black Is King’, but ‘White Is King’ would sound racist.
While the first 2 comments from the same person are a bit long to quote here, you can check the link above to read them, they go on to explain that it’s not a racist title and only people who make a big deal about it are making it sound racist, and that popular culture hasn’t promoted black actors and shows as much as white actors and shows.
Between this person’s two comments defending the name, they have over 2000 likes and nearly 400 comments. The third comment comes in and has nearly 700 likes along with 200 comments and explains that if it were titled ‘White Is King’, that would sound very racist and upset a lot of people.
Each of these comments has very long and detailed comments and conversations going on and whether you agree with one, both or none, it’s a conversation that needs to be had. Is it just the title of a film like ‘Black Panther’ or does it have a deeper meaning?
Chances are, it’s the name of a film by Beyonce, who is black and that’s what she wanted to title it. Of course, reading through all the comments, everyone has an opinion or thought. What do you think? Is the title offensive or just the title of a film that shouldn’t be taken so literally? Let us know in the comments below.
