After news of split after split during the global pandemic, it’s about time we all got some good news about a relationship that was rekindled during this trialing time.

Ben Stiller has shared during an interview with Esquire the “unexpected” news that he and his ex-wife, Christine Taylor have reunited after an almost five-year separation.

He equates the rekindling of their marriage to time spent together during the pandemic. The pair, who were married for 17 years from 2000 to 2017, decided to move back in together at the beginning of the pandemic shutdowns so that Ben would be near their kids.

The Stiller-Taylors share two teenagers; a 19-year-old daughter, Ella, and a 16-year-old son, Quinlin.

“Then, over the course of time, it evolved,” Stiller recalled. “We were separated and got back together and we’re happy about that. It’s been really wonderful for all of us,” he added. “Unexpected, and one of the things that came out of the pandemic.”

The Zoolander star detailed how things are different in the relationship between the exes now and that they are both in a new and more “accepting” headspace.

“You can really appreciate someone more because you’re not trying to get them to change for you.”

It wasn’t only his relationship with Taylor that improved for Stiller over the quarantine. The “Meet to Fockers” comedian told Esquire how he and his adult daughter worked through the issues she’d had in regards to his workload and absence during her childhood.

“It’s hard to hear,” Stiller admitted. “Because it’s me not being there in the ways that I saw my parents [comedians and actors Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara] not being there. And I had always thought, Well I won’t do that.”

Stiller admitted to putting himself and his dreams first. “And that doesn’t feel great,” he said, adding, “Your kids are not keeping score on your career.”

What is great is hearing at least one tale of triumph, not woe that has come out of this past two years of difficult times. We hope we might hear wedding bells ring again sometime for Ben and Christine?
