Alec Baldwin’s recent tragedy in which he fired a prop gun that ended up killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza has highlighted the actor’s history of speaking out against pro-gun enthusiasts.
Alec Baldwin’s Gun Shooting Incident Highlighted The Actor’s Prior Comments Which Demanded Tougher Gun Control Laws
The United States has been plagued by various mass shootings in its history. One such example includes the Sandy Hook incident. While the second amendment protects the right to bear arms, there has always been a faction of society that has called on there to be tougher gun control laws.
One of those has been Alec. As early as 2018, the actor joined an initiative led by several celebrities entitled ‘No Rifle Association’ (NoRA). This was designed to counter the huge influence that the National Rifle Association (NRA) has on US politics.
Therefore, by lobbying critical politicians, the NRA was able to get lenient gun control laws. Given what has happened with Alec, his previous comments certainly need to be thought about.
In a prior post to his fans on Twitter, he remarked: “The Second Amendment is not a moral credit card that buys you all the guns you want. That law needs to be rethought.”
Gun control has always been a divisive issue. Hardcore conservative Americans have valued guns as a means of defence at what they perceive to be an inadequate police force, as well as a way to stand up against a tyrannical government.
And yet, given the number of tragedies that have emerged with the use of guns, there has been a greater call on there to be some sort of reform.
And this is something that Alec will be looking to be at the forefront of. But as of now, the only thing he can do is help the family of the deceased.
In a Twitter post at the time of the incident, he stated: “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.
