When celebrity marriages break up, sometimes they get pretty nasty. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s marriage seemed mutual and they have three children together. Ben has started to be more open about his marriage to Jennifer and this week on his appearance on the Howard Stern Show, he let out a lot of information about the two of them. Much of it was shocking to his fans and probably to Garner as well.

When Ben sat down to talk to Howard Stern, he was quick to share his thoughts about his past marriage to Garner. He told Stern, “I’d probably still be drinking. It’s part of why I started drinking… because I was trapped. I was like ‘I can’t leave ’cause of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?’ What I did was drink a bottle of scotch and fall asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution.”

Affleck has been in rehab many times for his drinking and the last time he went was in 2018 when he and Garner divorced. He told Stern that they really did try to keep their marriage together, but it was too tough to try any longer. He said, “The truth was, we took our time, we made the decision… We grew apart.”
Ben went on, “We had a marriage that didn’t work, this happens, with somebody that I love and respect, but to whom I shouldn’t be married any longer. Ultimately, we tried. We tried, we tried because we had kids. Both of us felt like we don’t want this to be the model that our kids see of marriage.”
The couple had some bumps in the road and are on very good terms now and they are co-parenting their children very well. They are still close that even on Halloween, Garner joined Affleck and Jennifer Lopez to have some fun with the kids.
This news of Ben’s drinking has hit social media pretty hard and his fans are in shock that he would say this about his ex-wife. We hope that she knew what he was going to say or this may have been a big shock to her as well. Hopefully Affleck’s relationship with Lopez has gotten better and hopefully he doesn’t have to drink to be around her the way he did with Garner.
