Huey Haha, also known as Huey Ha, has passed away. It was posted to his instagram on October 25th, but no cause of death was given, he was only 22 years old. A gofundme was started by a close friend in order to cover funeral cost, the original goal was $15K but as of this morning it has easily doubled that.
The rest of the proceeds will go to support his 2 year old daughter whom he leaves behind. Huey Haha was a rising online comedy star, it seems. He had over 450K followers between youtube and instagram, but really seemed to find his stride on tiktok.
However it looks like Huey’s tiktok account has now been deleted.
One of his most famous skits was “When you a cockroach” and it had him in a giant cockroach suit being chased around by a friend with a nike slide. His most recent skit that he uploaded to his youtube channel was “When you take everything offensive”, which makes one wonder what kind of commentary he was really trying to make there and if it had anything to do with the landscape of comedy lately – but that could jsut be too deep a read.
It does beg the question though, what was his cause of death and could it be attributed to social media? He had a lot of followers and usually with more followers there is a chance of more hate, some people can let hate roll off their backs and some can’t.
That being said, Ha seemed to be a largely unproblematic creator, He had a lot of short form content and none of it seemed particularly offensive (though some might make the argument that if you’re going to upload something online chances are it’s going to offend somebody somewhere for some reason.), so that leaves the ideas of COVID or a freak accident, it looks like it may have been the latter since his last video was posted just 6 days ago.
Either way, it is a tragic loss for his family, and his followers. The world just got a little less funny as of October 25th. RIP Huey Haha.
