Ariana Grande’s ‘7 rings’ lawsuit settled

With the pandemic last year, we missed a few things that would have normally been on our radar, like for instance, did you know that Ariana Grande  got sued for the track ‘7 rings’? Me neither, but a an NYC recording artist named Josh Stone made claims that Ariana’s track ‘7 rings’ sounded remarkably like one of his tracks called “You need it, I got it”, a little too close for comfort, and took her to court over it.

We did hear about the claims that Ariana allegedly stole the song, but we must’ve missed the part where it actually went to court – woops!

However as of today, it looks like that lawsuit has been settled.

It ws alleged in the lawsuit, that one of the guys on Ariana’s team had actually sat in on a meeting with other music execs with Stone and heard the song and then afterwards, Ariana somehow came up with the same hook, beat, and really similar lyrics.

Stone even had some musicologists sit and listen to the two tracks and compare the two, and they said that the hook and beat of the two songs were practically identical. Stone said that thanks to Ariana’s team’s dishonesty, he didn’t get to cash in on the success of ‘7 rings’.

But it looks like that may no longer be the case. Ariana made no mention of Stone in the credits of the song, rather she credited Rodgers and Hammerstein, the OGs who wrote “My Favorite Things”.

If you’re looking for Ariana to say anything about the lawsuit then you’ll probably be waiting. Chances are she wont’ say a word about what went down in the courtroom or how much the case was settled for – if anything. (I’m guessing there was cash money involved here.)

Right now she’s too busy basking in her win at the grammy’s to really care about what went on in court. No word on whether or not this other, virtually unknown artist will get a credit on any updated versions of the album or not, but it doesn’t seem that way. I guess a one-time lump sum payment will work just as well. Stay tuned!!!
