Counting On: Jill Duggar’s Husband Derick Dillard Passes Bar Exam, Becomes Licensed Lawyer In Arkansas!

Derick Dillard from Counting On has finally done it! Four years ago, he announced that he was leaving the show, along with his wife, Jill Dillard, to focus on his law career. He and Jill were ready to leave the Duggars behind and focus on their family without cameras around. Now it looks like they are one step closer to financial stability and they are very excited.

Counting On: Derick’s Education

Back in 2018, Derick told fans that he was going to law school at the University of Arkansas. He told fans then, “We look forward to seeing how God will continue to direct our family in this new chapter of life.” He has been working as a “Rule XV Attorney” since last August and basically, that means he is a student-lawyer, who is still being guided and supervised by a licensed lawyer.

The University of Arkansas law program states that the program, “provides students with the opportunity to become limitedly licensed to practice law in the State of Arkansas. Students must be supervised by a fully licensed attorney and may not receive compensation other than class credit for the representation.”

Derick told fans that he has been working for the last three years on a variety of cases and jobs. He worked as a law clerk in 2019 and also a Public Service Fellow.

He did some work for a Legal Externship at the Sebastian County Prosecutor’s Office, and then a Judicial Externship at the Benton County Circuit Court. He graduated from law school in May of 2021 and has been studying extremely hard to pass the bar exam. With two children and now one on the way, he has worked very hard to accomplish his dreams.

Jill spoke of his time at school, “Although law school wasn’t easy, Derick enjoyed it overall and had many great experiences! While in school, he enjoyed working in several different areas of public service law at both the state and federal levels, including prosecution, defense and judicial work! He was greatful to receive a schloarship through the Public Service Fello. He was also honored to be part of a small group of students selected for the Arkansas Public Service Academy, and he even received a ProBono & Community Engagemetn award at graduation that recognized his many extra hours volunteering in public service outside of work and class!”

Derick has had plenty of jobs and now it looks as if getting his practice may be in his near future.
