India and Catherine Oxenberg React to Allison Mack’s Jail Sentence in NXIVM Cult Scandal

India Oxenberg is one of the most high-profile survivors of the NXIVM cult after her mother, Dynasty star Catherine Oxenberg went to great lengths to get her daughter out. Catherine’s dogged  determination to free India from NXIVM’s brainwashing clutches is a main storyline on the documentary “The Vow”.

Now the women are speaking out about ex-Smallville star, Allison Mack, who “owned” India as her slave and, last week, was sentenced to three years in prison.

India and Catherine Oxenberg React to Allison Mack’s Jail Sentence in NXIVM Cult Scandal.

Mack pled guilty to racketeering conspiracy and racketeering charges associated with her role in Keith Raniere’s cult. Though she could have received 15-17 years for her part as a leader, she helped prosecutors to nail the “Vanguard” Raniere and in return received the lessened three year sentence followed by three years probation and a $20,000 fine.

Though some were outraged but Mack’s short sentence, Catherine Oxenberg believes the judge in the case knows what he’s doing. Speaking to PEOPLE, the actress said, “He is incredibly wise, and if this is his sentence that he has chosen for Allison, this is justice. He believes that this woman is remorseful and sincere and he wants to give her a second chance. And I respect him.”

India Oxenberg, whom Mack branded with Raniere’s initials and held “collateral” over her head as blackmail also felt Mack was sincere in her remorse. The now 30 year old revealed to PEOPLE that she and some other survivors received personal apologies from the actress before her last court appearance.

“I did not expect to get a letter from her, and the tone seemed honest and really sad, and also … like she has seen the truth of who Keith Raniere really is,” India explained. “That was validating in itself to know that everything that my mother and I have done and spoke about actually had an effect on her.”

India went on to say she didn’t have any reason not to accept Mack’s apology and it did not diminish the damage Mack inflicted on herself and other survivors, but was a stepping stone in moving forward.

As for India’s future, mom Catherine believes it is bright. “She has come out of this stronger, she’s found her voice, she is deeply involved in activism and all her projects are sort of moving in the direction where she’s found her strength,” the proud mom gushed. “I’m very, very happy for her.”
