Shane Dawson just admitted in a vlog video on fiance Ryland Adams’ youtube channel that his career is over. That’s right, you heard it folks, Shane Dawson just admitted that his career is over.
Now, they were doing this vlog where they were picking out furniture in a furniture store (it looked to be just them and everyone was wearing masks and properly socially distanced) and they were looking at this thing – it looked to be a red wicker horse – and said that, “Okay here’s the thing, I know that I’m weird, and I know that my career is over, and I know I’m just that crazy guy that buys weird toys.”

I don’t know what sort of turn his life has taken since all the drama started but I think we can safely say that none of us had any idea about the “weird toys” venture unless it was for a video.
I guess when one has made millions of dollars on youtube and through a deal with Jeffree Star, one has to do something with all the money one has collected. “Weird toys” seems like a perfectly innocuous idea, I mean, that doesn’t require marginalizing entire groupes of people or anything like that and doesn’t require making underage kids and their Moms feel uncomfortable so I guess youtube’s loss is the “weird toy collectors” gain?
Considering its been a minute since Ryland uploaded any vlogs we don’t exactly know when this video was filmed, if it was pre or post contoversy, we kind of assume post, considering how lost Shane seems to say when he says that.
But is it really over? I mean, you can’t exactly stop a person from making videos (unless youtube deletes their channel entirely), but it looks like his continued friendship with problematic Jeffree Star has really hurt him. According to former friend Trisha Paytas he did have plans to return to youtube in 2021 but in light of recent events has decided not to because… well honestly, it looks like no one actually wants him back.
I think for Shane it’s a matter of feeling boxed in, a lot of his old humor was indeed offenseive and you couldn’t really get through a video without something being said that was just inherently wrong. So, I can see where he thinks his career is over, there’s just not much of a market for that kind of humor anymore.
Especially in today’s climate. Hurt is running rampany in the country right now and it’s simply not the time for a Shane Dawson return. When or if he does return, he’s going to have to go through an intense rebranding of his kind of humor because a lot of it.. is just straight-up offensive.
That’s why I say I much prefer the Shane who was doing the food videos and DIY things to the Shane that was doing skits, his humor just sort of worked better on those types of things because he was making fun of objects and things without feelings, not actual people.
Could Shane Dawson make a return? It’s still possible. Is he willing to go through all the rebranding it takes to do it? We’ll see. Stay tuned!!!
