UFC News: Next Challenger For Israel Adesanya Revealed After Stunning Victory On Saturday

UFC fans were full of adulation for Israel Adesanya on Saturday evening, as the Nigerian-born fighter produced one of the best performances in the octagon that we have seen this year. In fact, his brutal title defence against Paulo Costa may also go down as one of the best performances that we have seen in recent times.

But, the job never stops in the life of a champion, and Dana White has already revealed what could be next on the agenda for Adesanya. But, how soon could we see the middleweight champion back in action?

UFC News: Adesanya’s Next Opponent

Details emerged after the fight on Saturday that White already has plans for Adesanya when it comes to his next title fight. There has been no word yet as to how soon this fight could happen, but White did reveal that the next opponent could be Jared Cannonier. However, that happening will depend on whether he will be able to beat Robert Whittaker in his upcoming fight.

Cannonier is currently ranked as the third best middleweight fighter according to the UFC rankings. Adesanya will not have to wait long to see whether he will be coming up against Cannonier.

He will be fighting against Whittaker at the end of October at UFC 254. That promises to be a huge night of MMA action as that fight will be on just hours before Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje go head to head.

UFC News: Cannonier’s UFC Record

There is no doubting Cannonier’s ability inside the octagon, as he has won his last three fights. However, the fight against Whittaker will present a step up in competition. Cannonier last fought in the UFC back in September last year when he beat Jack Hermansson in the second round. The fight saw Cannonier awarded the Performance of the Night award.

Before that victory, Cannonier beat both David Branch and Anderson Silva in successive fights. Both of those fights were won via TKO, and also shows that he has been unbeaten since arriving in the middleweight division.

The victory over Silva came at UFC 237, which took place in Brazil back in May last year. Meanwhile, he beat Branch at UFC 230, which took place in November 2018 in New York.
