Barely a day goes by without a member of the Duggar family creating headlines (okay, it’s almost always Josh). This has led to Amazon creating a docuseries about three of the most famous fundamentalist families currently on television.
Being put together by the folks who gave us the LulaRich docuseries-exploring the rise and fall of the LulaRoe empire- this docuseries about the IBLP (Institute in Basic Life Principles) will feature TLC’s Duggars and Plaths and UPtv’s Bates family.
Amazon to Make a Docuseries Exploring TV’s Famous Fundamentalist Families
While most people have heard of these families or their shows; the Duggars with 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On, the Plaths with Welcome to Plathville, and the Bates with Bringing Up Bates, not everyone is familiar with IBLP
The Institute in Basic Life Principles is a religion known to set forth some extreme rules. It is described by the official website ( ah, just like they used to have in the old testament!) as “introducing people to the Lord Jesus Christ”. The organization asserts IBLP is “dedicated to giving individuals, families, churches, schools, communities, governments, and businesses clear instruction and training on how to find success by following God’s principles found in Scripture.”
However, the consensus from the general public sees the religion as being cult-like, creating unlivable and double standards.
As Variety reported, the logline for the unnamed docuseries reads, “On the heels of Josh Duggar’s explosive criminal trial, the untitled project will expose shocking connections between some of reality television’s most famous large families and The Institute in Basic Life Principles, a controversial fundamentalist organization and homeschooling empire.
In addition, prominent commentators, writers, and social media voices will explore the broader zeitgeist of reality television, social media, faith, fundamentalism, patriarchy, and power.”
The IBLP, Duggar, Bates and Plath families are all yet to comment on the news of the docuseries that is slated to air on Amazon Prime in late 2022 or early 2023.
