The Expanse has been a hit on Amazon Prime Video and season four released this month, December 13th! It is a multilayered show that centers around the overpopulation of Earth so we are forced to explore into the “expanse“. See what I did there, to find alternative land and resources. There are three factions, Earth, Mars, and people who live in the asteroid belt between, called Belters. The three are constantly at opposite ends, figuratively and literally, and The Expanse shows the opposition between them, playing off of inequality motifs.
According to a summary on IMDB, more specifically, The Expanse follows, “A police detective in the asteroid belt, the first officer of an interplanetary ice freighter, and an earth-bound United Nations executive slowly discover a vast conspiracy that threatens the Earth’s rebellious colony on the asteroid belt.”
The Expanse stars Steven Strait (The Covenant, 10,000 B.C.), Cas Anvar (Room, The Strain), Dominique Tipper (Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them, MindGamers), Wes Chatham (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, The Town That Dreaded Sundown) along with Punisher star Thomas Jane as the belt detective.
If you haven’t watched The Expanse, for whatever reason, or want a quick recap before season 4 Kevin Smith and Amazon Prime Video have the perfect video for you. In the video Kevin Smith is his own talkative self and gives a complete recap over the background, factions, and each season of The Expanse giving you every reason in the world to either catch up or if you’ve watched the show up to now, gives a quick and concise recap with some classic Kevin Smith humor of course! Before I ramble on anymore, watch the 14-minute video below.
Do you feel caught up? I think you should after that informative and fun video, however, if you still don’t feel up to speed there’s plenty of time to binge-watch season 3 before the release in 10 days.
Here’s a summary for the first episode of season 4, according to IMDB’s plot link.
“With 1300 new worlds within reach, a new interplanetary “land rush” has begun. The UN charges the crew of the Rocinante to settle a land dispute on its new colony world “New Terra.” Meanwhile, the OPA begins transitioning the Behemoth to become outpost and gatekeeper to humanity’s new frontier.”
We can expect quite a bit from this small summary. With 1300 new worlds in reach, it’s going to be a fight for land, a new “gold rush” of sorts. You won’t want to miss out on season 4, episode 1 December 13th, on Amazon Prime Video!
