Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is blasting Vice President Kamala Harris for telling illegal immigrants to not come to the United States amid a record surge in illegal border crossings. AOC shared her disdain for the Vice President’s comments in a string of tweets and retweeting the video of Harris in Guatemala telling them not to come to the United States illegally.
Harris said to reporters at a press conference in Guatemala,
“I want to be clear to folks in this region who are thinking about making that dangerous trek to the United States-Mexico border: Do not come, do not come,”
However, for AOC, her comments were “disappointing to see.”

“First, seeking asylum at any US border is a 100% legal method of arrival. Second, the US spent decades contributing to regime change and destabilization in Latin America. We can’t help set someone’s house on fire and then blame them for fleeing.” Ocasio-Cortez wrote.
This, of course, is completely backward of what Harris and Joe Biden said when they originally took office, saying, “The message changed too: ‘We’re going to reunite families, we’re going to reunite children.”
The current administration undid former President Donald Trump’s border policies which prompted a flood of Central American and Mexican illegal immigrants at the border, including thousands of children that arrived by themselves.
The Guatemalan president said he and Harris “are not on the same side of the coin” on migration.
“We asked the United States government to send more of a clear message to prevent more people from leaving,” Giammattei said.
