ABC ‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers indicate Flashback Friday is here once again. This time, they went back a little further. It was a pleasant surprise that we thought was a pretty good episode. But it also showed us something we will probably have stuck in our minds now. Here’s what you need to know.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: The story
The episode was an anniversary one that centered on the death of AJ Quartermaine (Sean Kanan) at the hands of Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). While Sonny was talking the situation over with Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright), Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson) got otherworldly visits from by AJ and Emily Quartermaine (). The story led to a serious discussion for Sonny and Carly, while Monica dealt with grief. Also, guilt over her loses. She at one point thinks that AJ would’ve been better off if he’d gone far away from her. It ended much like Oscar Nero’s (Garren Stitt) final episode, with AJ being guided to the next life by the family patriarch and matriarch.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Flashback Friday proves the original can’t be beat
Since there was no description for the episode today on our guide, we did a little digging and were happy to see this episode was from 2014. This is the furthest the series has gone back during the weekly throwbacks. We hope this trend will continue, and hope there’s some classic arcs ahead. ‘Bold and the Beautiful’ and ‘Young and the Restless’ are already doing that, so they’d be wise to follow suit. It’ll be a great chance for us newer fans to see some of the most talked-about/loved arcs, as well as bring a little nostalgia for the fans who watched the episodes in their original run. In this episode in particular, we got to see a lot of history.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Changing faces
The best part of the episode for us was the scene between Sonny and Carly where they argue about AJ’s death and Sonny’s part in it. The scene led them to a rehashing of the past where Sarah Joy Brown, Tamara Braun, and Wright all take their turn playing the character. The conversation flowed, while a brief pan of the camera would come back to reveal a new Carly. It was a cool way to include the main actresses who not only played this part, but made her so popular. Throughout, we also got some old flashbacks from years past showing some of the things Sonny and Carly went through together. It was an eye-opening experience. Let us explain…
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: The weak link
We think the scenes show there’s a weak link in this chain. Now, we know this might be controversial, but we have to say it: Laura Wright. Don’t get us wrong. We think she’s a good actress, and we do believe she does a great job with the material. It’s just watching the other actresses in the part revealed what we felt was more chemistry between Bernard, Brown, and Braun.
The banter was a bit lighter with the previous Carlys as well, and just felt like we saw more affection there. Honestly, we wouldn’t exactly mind seeing either of those two back in the part. However, if we have to pick a winner of the three, we’d give the edge to Brown. Maybe it’s because she originated the character, but it just felt like she was the one who fit the best. That’s the fun, yet problematic part of a recast—there’s something about the first one that can’t be duplicated. For any other soap opera and entertainment news, please visit Daily Soap Dish.
