British Royal Family News says that Prince Harry has a new purpose in life, and that purpose is to make the online world a safer, if not also a ‘nicer’ place. The Duke of Sussex opened up about the problem that online has become during his Time100 virtual talk with his wife, Meghan Markle, by his side. Here’s what he has to say.
Both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made it no secret that they are now living a much better life offline than they did online. The royal couple decided not to open up any new social media accounts after they officially closed down their Sussex Royal Instagram account on the last day of their working royal status back in March 31st.
British Royal Family News: Prince Harry’s New Initiative Is Taking On ‘Online Hate’
For Prince Harry, he believes there needs to be something done about all of the trolling and negativity that is being spread online on a daily basis. He said, “What is happening in the online world is affecting the world. It is not restricted to certain platforms or certain social media conversations or groups. This is a global crisis—a global crisis of hate, a global crisis of misinformation, and a global health crisis.”
Meghan also chimed in on the matter and said that there is a huge correlation between what you see online and how you react to it offline.
She added, “Both of us realized that we can continue to champion these things that we’re passionate about. We can continue to do this work to try to affect change and help the people who need it most or the communities or environments that need it most, but it’s almost like you’re taking two steps forward and five steps backward if you can’t get to the root cause of the problem. Which at this point right now we see in a large way as a lot of what’s happening in the tech space…This isn’t just a tech problem. This isn’t solely a mental health or emotional wellbeing problem. This is a human problem. And what’s happening to all of us online is affecting us deeply offline.”
