Although he does make a living telling jokes all the time, Stephen Colbert is in no mood to joke about this. The late time talk show host recently expressed concern for both President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump after reports indicated that they tested positive for Covid-19.

The President of the United States is currently at Walter Reed Medical Hospital receiving treatment for the virus, which has killed over one million people from all over the world. Here’s what you need to know.

According to reports, Colbert said that he didn’t plan on filming an episode of The Late Show until he heard about President Trump’s diagnosis. At first, both President Trump and his wife Melania were supposed to quarantine at the White House for 14 days but it was later reported that the president would be transferred to Walter Reed Medical Center as a precaution, with some outlets reporting that his condition has worsened.

For Colbert, he pointed out to his viewers the seriousness of the president’s diagnoses with the election being just one month away.

“Now, say what you will about the president, and I do,” Colbert began. “This is a serious moment for our nation and we all wish the president and the first lady of the United States a speedy and a full recovery.”

“I really think it’s important for all of us to separate the man from the office – and I hope on Nov. 3 we literally do. But for now, I find it troubling, moving even, to see the president of the United States be taken to the hospital and to imagine the responsibility those service members flying that helicopter must feel,” Colbert said. Colbert went on to say that Trump’s diagnosis is disturbing and that he is indeed worried for him.

“To recap, the commander in chief of the most powerful nation on earth has fallen ill with a virus that has hobbled the entire world,” the late-night host continued. “This after spending the last few months holding rallies, mocking people who wear masks and generally acting like he was invincible even though he’s a 74-year-old man with pre-existing conditions.”
