Prince Harry appeared on Late Night with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night, where he mocked President Trump during a comedy skit. He came into the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York and received a flurry of cheers and a standing ovation.
Harry Delivered Some Awkward Jokes on Late Night
The Duke of Sussex referenced the “No Kings” left-wing protest, which saw millions march in New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, Miami, and Los Angeles in October.
Harry delivered some awkward jokes, criticized CBS for settling its lawsuit with Trump, and claimed that
“The US was obsessed with royalty.”
He asserted that America had elected a “King.”
He also made a crack about his sixth great-grandfather, King George III, and Colbert called the late monarch a “jerk.”
Harry also joined the comedian for a Christmas sketch about being in a Hallmark movie. There was no actual interview, and some viewers admitted to cringing when several of Harry’s jokes fell flat.
The Duke said that he would “do anything, ride a horse, fly a helicopter,” and said he had “showbiz connections,” including a “wife who was once a famous TV star. They named the “Hallmark movie,” Gingerbread Christmas Prince saves Christmas in Nebraska.”
Fake snow fell onto the stage, and Harry made a gag about being a “handsome prince.” And Colbert needed to “believe.” The late-night host told Harry he had “got the role” of “official Late Show prince of Christmas.”
Royal experts claim that Harry’s appearance on Late Night reflects poorly on the House of Windsor. The Telegraph’s Judith Woods even compared it to Prince Edward’s 1987 disaster, “It’s a Royal Knockout.”
A trailer filmed with Colbert showed Harry lip-synching to Alison Hammond in a viral excerpt of the Great British Bake Off. The Duke hammed it up with everything he had.
Meghan Posted Harry’s Stephen Colbert Appearance on Instagram
British PR guru, Mark Borkowski has been observing Harry’s behavior since he stepped down as a working royal and left the UK. He said, “What we’re seeing is the classic identity vacuum of a man who walked out of the royal machine without building a new one to stand in.”
He continued,
“Every skit, every podcast cameo, every crowd-pleasing wisecrack is an attempt to reverse engineer a persona the public never actually asked for.”
Borowski said,
“His problem is painfully simple. You can’t reinvent yourself while still selling tickets to the old you. He wants to be ‘just Harry,’ but every beat of the joke depends on the audience knowing he isn’t pushing.”
He went on,
“It all got a bit thirsty. The party circuits, the strategic handshakes. It appears he only sees fame through Instagram reels. The famous don’t mind being mocked; they fear being ignored. Harry’s skating worryingly close to the latter.”
Today, Meghan Markle posted on Instagram about Harry’s appearance on The Late Show, but no mention of her dying father.
Yesterday, it was revealed that Meghan’s estranged father, Thomas, was reportedly in an intensive care unit in the Philippines after undergoing surgery.
Thomas Markle was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday after becoming seriously ill at home. Meghan’s father now faces a second surgery to remove a blood clot.
It’s been one health issue after the next, as Meghan’s father suffered two heart attacks before her wedding to Prince Harry and a stroke in 2022. Meghan has been estranged from her father since before marrying Harry in May 2018.
