Days of Our Lives spoilers indicate that actor Greg Rikaart has announced that he is leaving Salem. This is disappointing news for many fans who have enjoyed seeing him play the manipulative, if not also despicable Leo Stark for the last two years. The actor recently opened up about his decision to leave and what he plans on doing next in the latest issue of Soaps In Depth.
Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Greg Rikaart Says Later To Leo Starke, Opens Up About Leaving DOOL and Playing Multi-Faceted Villain
Rikaart told the publication that playing Leo Stark has definitely been a highlight of his soap career so far and that’s because the character is definitely a unique one compared to other daytime television roles.

The actor explained, “It was such a unique opportunity to play a gay villain. I don’t think that had ever been done in daytime. And he was written in such a way that he was not just a two-dimensional villain. Rather, there was such humor, vulnerability and all these different lawyers to Leo that it was a dream job.”
Greg also says that working with such a great, talented cast sure did make his stay in Salem even more enjoyable, particularly when the legendary actress Judith Chapman came on to play his mother, Diane Cooper.
“Particularly in the early part of the story arc with Sonny, Leo was holding all the cards. It was fun to be feeling like ‘I can’t lose here.’ But having Diana come brought Leo’s house of cards down quickly, and that gave me the opportunity to show a part of him that we hadn’t seen.”
As far as what’s next, Greg will be going back to The Young and the Restless in the coming weeks. And for the actor, he says that it’s not only a great opportunity, but that he feels incredibly lucky to have more than one option when it comes to the world of soaps.
