ABC ‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers tease that star Sydney Mikayla is opening up about her early days in the entertainment industry. The actress, who is best known for her role as Trina, says that it was her mother, actress Sonya Shepard, who helped her get her foot in the door by being a guiding and supportive ‘momager.’ Here’s what she has to say.
Speaking to Soap Opera Digest in a new interview, the talented young actress told the publication, “Going out on auditions as a child, you don’t really understand what’s happening, but after, we would always get frozen yogurt, so I used to believe that an audition was, like, frozen yogurt time. I was just like, ‘Man, this is really fun.’”

However, Sydney adds that she never felt any pressure from her mom to go to any of the auditions or to be in the entertainment industry if she didn’t want to. The actress added, “She was supportive, but she was always like, ‘You can stop anytime you want. And I just remember, at a certain age, wanting to continue to pursue it. My first role was on Yo Gabbba Gabba! On Nickelodeon, which was really big for me because that was my favorite show as a 5-year-old. I was very excited.”
She added that as she got older though, it was more and more difficult for her to book roles. Sydney explained, “For a long time, I didn’t feel like I was booking any jobs because I have a very young face but I am very tall or my age. Acting with other kids, I would always be taller than everyone else. I’d get to the final audition found at like, the Disney building and stuff like that, and then I’d be like, ‘I already know that I am way too tall for this.’”
Luckily for Sydney and for ‘General Hospital’ fans too, the actress found her home on the set of Port Charles. But knowing what kind of talented young star she is, we have a feeling that her career will go beyond the daytime television world. Or at least, that’s what her fans are hoping for. Fingers crossed!
