The Young and The Restless‘ Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) recently gave control of Newman Enterprises back to Victor Newman (Eric Braden). She finally chose to return Victor’s company to the Newmans.
Key Highlights
- Phyllis gave control of Newman Enterprises back to Victor
- Victor was impressed by Phyllis outmaneuvering him and may be willing to help her for a price
- Reopening the Grand Phoenix would bring that hotel back into the focus of the show
- She could pitch a lucrative business plan to buy the building back, requiring a generous loan
Could Phyllis Somehow Work with Victor?
Of course, she was backed into a corner with no way out, but it’s also possible that Nick Newman’s (Joshua Morrow) overdose may have had something to do with her decision.
In a shocking twist, Phyllis and Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) saved Nick’s life. He felt he owed her one, so he told his father not to press charges if Phyllis returned their company to them.
Nick’s brush with death seemed to bring everything into perspective for Phyllis and Nick about what’s truly important.
However, now that Phyllis no longer has Newman, she’s back to square one and doesn’t know what to do.

Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) comforted Phyllis at Crimson Lights in her time of need, and it’s clear that Phyllis needs a new career path to fulfill her.
We have to wonder if Victor and Phyllis could actually work together now. He seems to have a newfound respect for her after she did the unthinkable: besting the Great Victor Newman.
No one ever bests Victor Newman, and despite his fury over Phyllis stealing from him, he was impressed by her actions.
Victor could provide her with some form of employment, at Nick’s request. Of course, anything is possible.
Phyllis Summers Could Find a Way to Reopen the Grand Phoenix Hotel
We could also see Phyllis working at Fenmore’s with her BFF, Lauren Fenmore (Tracy E. Bregman). Lauren and Phyllis working together could be fun to watch.
Truthfully, the best idea we came up with is that Phyllis could reopen the Grand Phoenix. She loved running that hotel, and she was also good at it.
It would be a departure from her most recent ventures, but it would be perfect for her. The hotel seemed to disappear from the show after Phyllis sold the property to Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) while running Chancellor-Winters.

After Phyllis sold the hotel to Lily, she went to work at her daughter, Summer Newman’s (Allison Lanier) company, Marchetti.
Phyllis could potentially secure backing from Victor, who loves nothing more than having people indebted to him.
Additionally, since Phyllis has extensive experience and knowledge of the hospitality industry, she could even take over for Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) and run the GCAC.
After all, Lily asked Cane if he would be willing to run Chancellor for her. If he agrees, he’s about to become super busy.
The Grand Phoenix Hasn’t Been Mentioned in Ages
Our money is on Phyllis reopening the Grand Phoenix hotel. However, that requires some serious cash. Her wealth has been drained by legal expenses, restitution payments, and failed business ventures.
She could pitch a lucrative business plan to buy back the building, which would require a generous loan.
What is peculiar is that the Grand Phoenix hasn’t been mentioned in ages, which is weird. The reopening could inject some fresh energy into Y&R.

Regardless, somehow, some way, we see Phyllis rise to her feet. Out of everyone she knows, we could see Sharon, Lauren, or even Nick helping her out.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Phyllis now that she’s no longer running Victor’s conglomerate.
