Britney Spears was driving erratically in California when she was pulled over and arrested for a DUI on the evening of Wednesday, March 4th, not too far from her home.
Britney Was Pulled Over After Driving Erratically and Arrested for a DUI
According to the Daily Mail,
“Spears has been released and will appear in court on May 4th. The police spent an hour chasing the pop princess on the highway while she swerved in and out of lanes and was inebriated.”
A spokesperson for Britney told the Daily Mail,
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully, this will be the first step toward the long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
They added,
“Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue plan to set her up for success for well- being.”
Spears shares two children with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline. Sean Preston Federline and Jayden James Federline currently live in Hawaii with their father.
Those close to Britney believe this may be the moment that she decides to change. They want her to get into a program rather than end up behind bars.
Spears’ loved ones think she needs more support. After she was arrested, she was transferred to a hospital where her blood was drawn to determine her blood alcohol content.
Britney spent hours in Ventura County Jail around 3 am Thursday morning. She was released at 6 am. Her driver’s license is suspended, and she will appear in court soon.
Should Britney Be Put Back in a Conservatorship?
Some people are calling for Britney to return to a conservatorship, citing her troubling and undeniably irresponsible behavior.
Spears is a 44-year-old woman, and she should have learned her lesson by now, especially if the purpose of getting out of the conservatorship was to be free to live her life and have the chance to show that she can make better decisions.
Officers identified her car as a BMW convertible. They pursued Britney on a wild chase before she finally pulled over.
However, the songstress appeared to show some remorse for her careless actions. The Daily Mail also reported,
“There is potential jail time, a hefty fine of over $1,000, and mandatory DUI education programs.”
The Daily Mail added,
“A first offense typically involves three to five years of probation, a six- month license suspension, and about six months of DUI school.”
In recent months, Britney has been seen driving erratically, swerving in and out of lanes, and generally “spiraling.”
Her driving record isn’t exactly spotless. In 2007, she was charged with a hit-and-run incident after hitting a parked car. Britney was also caught driving without a license in 2008.
In 2007, Britney suffered her infamous mental breakdown, and she was placed in a psychiatric hospital, prompting a conservatorship to be put in place for her.
Spears’ conservatorship and her father’s control over her inspired the famous “Free Britney” movement, and she was removed from the conservatorship in November 2021.
