‘General Hospital’ spoilers confirm that Steve Burton, who plays Jason Morgan, is taking a hiatus from the soap to spend time with his new wife, Michelle Lundstrom, and his family.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Burton Broke the News to Fans on Instagram
On February 10th, the actor wrote on Instagram that he’s decided to take a break from his role,
“Hey everyone, I wanted to share that I’ll be taking a short break from General Hospital.”
He continued,
“I’m newly married and looking forward to spending time with my family. I’m grateful for all the support and will be back this summer. Much Love.”
Soap Opera Digest reported earlier today that Burton has filmed his final episode for now. His last day taping at the studio was on Friday, February 6th.
Since GH tapes a few weeks in advance and has an especially long lead time from filming to airing, viewers will still see Jason on the show for some time.
Sources close to the soap have also confirmed that GH will also be taking on a two-week production hiatus next week.
SOD also shared an announcement from executive producer Frank Valentini, who said,
“We love Steve, and I am glad the show worked it out so he can get some personal time with his family. We have some great Jason story leading up to spring and look forward to his return in the summer.”
Fans are already speculating how Jason’s temporary exit from the show will be written into the story. Not to mention, his budding romance with Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud), and what his exit means for the pair. Viewers have been rooting for their relationship to move forward.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Jason’s Absence Will Definitely Impact Britt’s Situation
Since Jason is obviously going to be off-screen for a few months, it’s going to affect Britt. Britt will be left to fend for herself in the scary situation she’s in.
She’s still being forced to work on Cesar Faison’s (Anders Hove) final project. Jason was the person she was counting on to help her out of this mess.
We also have to wonder whether his temporary leave has anything to do with Anna Devane’s (Finola Hughes) situation. Right now, Anna is trapped in a mental institution in France.
In the February 9th episode of GH, Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner) broke the news to Jason that Anna had a mental breakdown and was being treated in a hospital.
Jason doesn’t trust Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna) to help Anna, nor does he trust the entire WSB organization. Regardless, it looks like Jack and Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) may come to Anna’s rescue soon.
We think Jason may also factor into the equation. Of course, GH is also known for killing off characters and bringing them back to life.
However, been there, done that. It’ll be interesting to see how the writers factor Jason’s absence into the script.
In November 2021, Burton’s character was killed off the show, but GH wisely left his death open-ended for a return. The reason for his departure was due to the COVID vaccine mandates as they clashed with Burton’s beliefs.
After leaving, he returned to the role that started his soap career. He went back to Days of Our Lives to play Harris Michaels.
However, GH fans were thrilled to see their favorite right-hand hitman, Jason Morgan, return in March 2024.
