Podcast host and author, Giovanna Fletcher, recently sat down with Kate Middleton and conducted a candid interview with the future Queen that was featured in The Times.
Giovanna Fletcher interviewed Kate for the First Time In 2020
It marks five years since Fletcher first interviewed Kate on her Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast. The meeting made a positive impression on the host.
Fletcher praised the Princess, saying she’s “full of heart.” She also predicted that she’ll be “a queen who really listens, who leans in, who’s very aware of what’s going on.”
The podcast host also noted that Kate and Prince William
“are entering their future roles “with their eyes completely open.”
Speaking to the Times, Giovanna explained,
“What I think surprised me the most was how nervous we both were. I think there’s no denying, when you talk to Catherine, you know what she means to the country, what influence she will have on life going forward.”
Fletcher admitted, so I think I was nervous because of that.
“She was anxious because she knew that she was about to speak in a way she’d never spoken before.”
Apparently, Prince William was helpful in ridding Kate of her nerves. She said,
“William came into the room and said, ‘Just talk.”
Since the conversation wasn’t live, the recording could be edited. The interview was 90 minutes of refreshing honesty.
Kate Makes Sure Prince George Gets a Taste of Normal Childhood
Kate admitted that she “felt pressure to get it right” with Prince George. George is preparing for his future role as King.
The Princess of Wales told the podcaster,
“Motherhood is daunting enough, but the stakes are even higher when you’re raising a King.”
She said she also makes sure that George gets a taste of a normal, nurturing childhood. He does things like help his grandmother, Carole Middleton, “pick up fabric samples.”
However, he’s also starting to go with his parents on royal engagements. His last royal outing was going with his father, William, to visit the homeless shelter, the Passage.
Catherine will celebrate her 44th birthday on January 9th. She’s looking forward to the future but also living in the moment with her children and loving husband.
Her cancer battle reshaped how she approaches her life and her spirituality. The Princess also jokes that her three children, George, Charlotte, and Louis, are “feral.”
Catherine also spoke candidly about her kids. She said that she tried “hypnobirthing,” which is a form of meditation to reduce her fears of childbirth following “rotten” spells of morning sickness.
She also spoke about her own family growing up and said that the “simple things” are what she holds most dear to her heart.
Kate Revealed That She And William Are Still Estranged From Prince Harry And Meghan Markle
Kate loved going for walks with her parents, and now she does this with her children. What she uncovered as her personal “parenting non-negotiables” includes
“quality relationships, a safe, happy home, and time spent outdoors.”
During the interview, Kate revealed that the Waleses are still estranged from the Sussexes. They are more focused on raising their young family than on the drama surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Kate reported that because of her cancer ordeal, she’s decided that life is too short and too precious to get hung up on negativity.
Kate and William are also interested in making positive changes to the monarchy. They have decided that during William’s reign, they will live in their new “forever home” at Forest Lodge rather than in a palace.
It’s a big deal, since British monarchs have traditionally lived in castles for about 1,000 years. William prefers the idea of establishing a more modern monarchy, and Kate is totally on board.
Speaking about what royal fans can expect from Kate and William once they become King and Queen, Fletcher clarified,
“I think the Prince and Princess are going into it with their eyes completely open.”
Fletcher added,
“I don’t feel like it’s us vs them. We have to work together as a society to make that change happen, and I think they get it.”
For right now, Kate is learning to find joy in the simple moments, like spending time with her family, embracing quiet meditation, and stopping to smell a flower.
