‘Beyond the Gates’ Spoilers have seen glimpses of the Duprees’ elitist mentality throughout the show.
It’s hard not to be given how wealthy they are and how much power they have.
As we’ve seen, Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis) used Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett) as his fixer.
Bill did the dirty work so Vernon could keep his hands clean like any respectable politician or godfather.
Without Bill, the Duprees would be just another family that was in politics. They became more and amassed a huge amount of money and power.
They effectively became old money, meaning it’s generational. They’re the haves, and only a few seem to actually feel and care for the have nots.
Vernon and Martin Richardson (Brandon Claybon) are two that care and want to make a difference. Others are in it for power and glory like Naomi Hawthorne (Arielle Prepetit).
Dani Dupree (Karla Mosely) is the black sheep of the family for breaking away and doing it on her terms as a model.
The class war between the old money and new money is a real world elitist mentality that’s mostly hidden except in soap operas.
We’re seeing that now with Leslie Thomas (Trisha Mann-Grant) coming into tons of money from the trust Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie) set up to assuage her guilt.
It’s starting to look like her giving heart is based on assuaging her guilt for what she has, but it runs deeper.
‘Beyond the Gates’ Spoilers: Half or step brothers and sisters don’t count as family
‘Beyond the Gates’ Spoilers were in shock at Anita taking a pure blooded stance to support Kat Richardson (Colby Muhammad).
To be honest and fair, Kat has reason to be angry at Eva Thomas (Ambyr Michelle) and no one denies that.
But when he started to complain about Martin being out of her life, Anita stepped in to advise her.
Anita’s argument? Pure blooded family members count, step and half brothers and sisters aren’t family and don’t count.
That’s a glaring announcement and shows how elitist Anita is and isn’t the type of hill she should stand on.
‘Beyond the Gates’ Spoilers: Not the first time
Bill warned Ted Richardson (Keith D. Robinson) that he was an outsider to the Dupree clan and would never be considered their equal. He would know.
We saw it in one of the fist episodes when Jacob Hawthorne (Jibre Hordges) did the right thing and came to arrest Dani for shooting up Bill’s wedding.
Had it not been him, it would’ve been another officer who wouldn’t have her best interests at heart.
His reward? To have his wife and the others threaten to cut him out of the family.
From the start, the Duprees have been portrayed as severely flawed as any family is, and it’s a great thing to see.
We’re curious if Anita’s stance will come with a price, or will she skate?
Let us know what you think of her stance in the comments below.
