‘General Hospital’ spoilers share that Daniel Goddard recently dished to Soap Opera Digest about the beloved GH character he almost played decades before becoming Professor Henry Dalton.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Goddard Won the Role Of Professor Henry Dalton In April 2025
In April 2025, Goddard officially became a GH cast member. He joined the show to play a new character. The shady Professor has undoubtedly made an impression in Port Charles.
He framed poor Rocco Falconeri (Finn Carr) for destroying his research lab after the teens broke in to find out whether Dalton was testing on animals.
Rocco stoically covered for the other teens who hid behind Dalton’s desk. He took the heat for Charlotte Cassadine (Bluesy Burke) and Danny Morgan (Asher Antonyzn).
It was Emma Scorpio Drake (Braedyn Bruner) who got the ball rolling on the break-in scheme and had the full support of her boyfriend, Gio Palmeri (Giovanni Mazza).
Now, Dalton is out for revenge and is using Rocco as the scapegoat. Rocco is in serious trouble and is about to go on trial.
Dalton may not be the most beloved character on the soap, but he sure has stirred the pot and is a fun addition to the cast.
Goddard told SOD that he was seriously considered for the role of Dr. Patrick Drake, who was memorably played by Jason Thompson.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Goddard Was Super Close to Playing Dr. Patrick Drake
Thompson played Patrick for 10 years and eventually landed on The Young and the Restless, where he now plays legacy character Billy Abbott.
Patrick was a gifted surgeon and the son of the famous Noah Drake, played by 80s rock star Rick Springfield.
Patrick married legacy character, Robin Scorpio (Kimerly McCollough). Together, they had a daughter named Emma.
Interestingly, if Goddard were cast as Patrick, he would be playing the father of the scrappy, determined teenager trying to bring him down, Emma.
Goddard finds the irony amusing. He quipped,
“Isn’t that ironic? I read for the role, Jason got cast, and then I got cast over at Y&R within a couple of months of that.”
He added,
“So, there’s this bizarre kind of crossover moment, where I’m like, ‘That’s the girl that could have been my daughter if I had been cast in the role that Jason Thomas got!”
Goddard is well-known for his previous role at Y&R, where he portrayed Cane Ashby. Billy Flynn, who recently left Days of Our Lives, now plays Cane.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Goddard Didn’t Feel He Was the Right Actor to Play Patrick
The actor admitted he didn’t really feel like he quite fit the role of Patrick. However, he was asked to come back twice. In the end, Thompson won the part.
Yet, he went for a fateful audition for As the World Turns, which led to his role as Cane at Y&R. He shared,
“That show being CBS, Barbara Bloom, who was running CBS Daytime at the time, then brought me in to meet Lynn Latham, to read for the character of Cane. So I ended up on Y&R.”
Years later, when Thompson left the role of Patrick at GH and Y&R needed the next Billy Abbott, Goddard had a strange feeling that Thompson would get the part. Turns out, Goddard’s prediction was right on the money.
Goddard believes in serendipity and that everything was meant to be this way, and he was led down this path. If he had won the role of Patrick, his career could have gone another way.
He concluded,
“I’ve always lived since that time thinking that everything happens for a reason, especially in the acting world. You get a role because you’re meant to play it, and you don’t get a role because there’s somebody else who’s meant to play it.”
