Netflix’s ‘Gentefied’ trailer is out and it looks like a great comedy series. The show follows a family who owns a small restaurant and their struggles. According to a summary on IMDB, “Based on the digital series of the same title, Gentefied centers on three cousins who band together to keep their Grandfather’s popular Boyle Heights taco shop in business as the neighborhood becomes more gentrified. Throughout the show’s first season the cousins confront their differences in their connections to their community, their heritage, and their commitment to the family business, all while navigating larger themes of gentrification and the marginalization of Latinx’s in America.”

The owners of a small Mexican restaurant are proud of their culture and their food. However, they are falling behind on their bills. Most notably, their landlord (Wilmer Valderrama) keeps raising their rent and breathing down their necks. They have to attract more business to pay the bills and stay afloat.

To do this they will have to make a crucial decision. Keep to their Mexican heritage, and display it in their food, or “Americanize” their menu. It will be a tough choice, but if they’re going to make ends meet, it has to be done. Watch as they do everything they can to turn around their restaurant and pay the bills.

    Netflix’s ‘Gentefied’: The Digital Series

It’ll be funny, sad and happy. ‘Gentefied’ is described as a half-hour bilingual dramedy from Marvin Lemus and Linda Yvette Chávez. The series premiered at Sundance 2017 and was hugely received and applauded. Netflix has now ordered a 10 episode first season and will release next month.

Lemus and Chávez (creators of ‘Gentefied’) call Gentefied a love letter to the Latinx and Boyle Heights communities and hope the series will let their little cousins rocking Adidas, hoops and big dreams see themselves on the big screen in ways they themselves only dreamed of growing up.

‘Gentefied’ releases next month, February 21. Only on Netflix! Don’t forget to engage in the comments below with other soap opera junkies and let us know what you think.
