‘Beyond the Gates’ (BTG) spoilers suggest that shady Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom) may be involved with the mafia. Besides the fact that Joey is obviously charismatic and on the dangerous side, just how dangerous is he?
We have a hunch that Joey may be involved with the mob. When he was first introduced, he shared scenes with Doug McBride (Jason Graham).
‘Beyond The Gates’ Spoilers: Joey Plans To Take Doug For Everything He’s Worth
Joey showed how two-faced and deceptive he was. When he was sitting in the car with Doug, Joey acted like he cared about Doug and said that he saw potential in him.
When Randy Parker (Maurice P. Kerry) hopped into the car, Joey was all business and told him that he and Doug’s friendship was over and that he planned to take Doug for everything he’s worth.

In the March 12th episode of the soap, Joey invited Doug to play in a backroom poker game to play against some clearly skilled high rollers. Joey cleared Doug’s gambling debt at the casino, but Doug seems determined to pay him back.
However, Joey knows that Doug has a serious gambling addiction but isn’t exactly an adept player. In fact, he’s quite lousy at the game. It’s a dream combination for someone who may have some mafia ties or is a loan shark.
Joey’s plot to get Doug on the hook is working well. Doug is falling for Joey’s “nice guy” act hook, line, and sinker. Doug’s naivety makes him a prime target for someone like Joey.
To Doug, Joey was generous in paying his gambling debt. However, Joey has a bigger plan in mind for Doug. One that could land him in much trouble.

Joey may not be a big-time mob boss, but he has to be engrossed in that lifestyle. He’s so willing to exploit other people’s weaknesses to make a fast buck.
Lindstrom’s character on BTG reminds us of a combination of two of his other alter egos-Ryan Chamberlain meets Kevin Collins on General Hospital.
‘Beyond The Gates’ Spoilers: Joey Gets His Money By Any Means Necessary
Joey isn’t a serial killer, but he does seem like the type to chop your finger off if you fail to pay up. He may take someone out to the desert and bury them. We don’t yet know how far he’ll go for his money.
Doug may think Joey bailed him out, but Joey doesn’t do anything without an ulterior motive. The more Joey succeeds in getting Doug “on the hook,” the more dangerous and more profound Doug’s gambling addiction becomes.

Joey’s exact word words were that he was going to put “that moron” so far into debt he doesn’t know what hit him.” Casinos and gambling were explicitly designed to be addictive, so more often than not, you lose all your money playing.
Perhaps Joey even rigs games so that he ends up making a fortune. Joey and his mobster partners only care about bleeding people dry, and if they need to get blood from a stone, they may resort to violent or thug-like tactics to get their score.
It will be interesting to see how they develop Joey’s character. We have an impression that there’s more to him than meets the eye.
