‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers indicate that Claire Newman (Hayley Erin) would be more interesting if she plotted against the Newmans.
‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Claire And Jordan Set The Newmans Up
When we first met Claire, she conspired with her crazy aunt Jordan Howard (Colleen Zenk) to take down the Newman family.
She became Nikki Newman’s (Melody Thomas Scott) assistant but had a secret agenda, which was revealed when Claire lured Nikki to Jordan’s home and drugged her.
Claire and her aunt hooked Nikki up to an IV filled with vodka to effortlessly flow directly into her bloodstream. After the Newman family showed up to rescue Nikki, Claire and Jordan tried to kill them.
It was discovered that Claire was the not-so-dead daughter of Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and Cole Howard (J. Eddie Peck), which we all saw coming a mile away.
That being said, it didn’t make much sense because we all saw Victoria and Cole’s baby die onscreen. It just seemed like a plot point to connect her to the Newmans.
Jordan had apparently switched babies, and Victoria and Cole believed their child was stillborn. After attempting to murder the Newmans, Claire went to a psychiatric hospital and was somehow redeemed, which imo ruined the character.
The redemption happened too quickly after years of what was referred to as “brainwashing” by her aunt.
She was immediately accepted into the family, and all was forgiven. Claire became Harrison Abbott’s (Redding Munsell) nanny and hooked up with Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor).
Claire has always come off like an awkward and inexperienced teenager with Kyle. She claimed to have never been in a relationship before, but she obviously went to college and business school. It’s curious that she supposedly never had romantic interactions before.
‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Claire Is Playing Jordan Like A Fiddle
Now we have Claire offering to kill Jordan to protect the Newmans and anyone who crosses Jordan’s path.
Claire was at the park with Jordan; we saw a side of Claire that was far more compelling than her typically sugary, sweet, and no-spice demeanor.
Claire is playing Jordan but told her aunt she’s been playing the Newmans this whole time. She explained to Jordan that she despises being part of their family because of how poorly they treat people and how they scheme and use their money to get what they want.
Claire also pretended to miss Jordan and lied to her, saying that she missed the relationship they used to have. She was so convincing as Jordan’s protégé that she even made her heartless aunt cry real tears. They embraced, and it looked like Jordan was genuinely touched by Claire’s words.
What if Claire was planning to dismantle the Newmans, and she was only pretending to be on their side? Claire could have ingratiated herself with the Newman clan, and after she worked her way into their hearts, she planned on handing them over to Jordan all along.
Wishful thinking. We all know Claire will come out of this a saint. It would at least be more fun for Claire to have some edge or complexity in her character.
