‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Michelle Stafford, who plays Phyllis Newman on the soap, recently opened up to Soap Opera Digest about the real-life event that influenced her character’s need to make Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) pay.

‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Phyllis Thinks Sharon Killed Heather And Framed Daniel

Phyllis thinks Sharon killed Heather Stevens (Vail Bloom) and framed her son, Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei), for the murder of the love of his life.

While it’s true that Sharon framed Daniel and even went to his home the night Heather died with the intent to poison him, new details have come to light that suggests that perhaps Sharon didn’t kill Heather after all.

From Stafford’s perspective, Phyllis seeks answers more than trying to get revenge on her rival. When Phyllis heard that Sharon was drugged and that she wasn’t in her right mind, Stafford said Phyllis felt like,

    “Oh God, This defense again?”

“How many times does Sharon get a free pass because she wasn’t in her right mind?”

    Stafford asks.

“It’s just really, really upsetting to her.”

The actress can understand Phyllis’s frustration. Stafford explained,

“I have a friend whose son was killed by a hit-and-run driver, and I kind of channel my friend in this,”

    She shared.

“The hit-and-run-driver already had so many DUIs, had been arrested so many times, and the hit-and-run driver and his friends worked really hard to hide his crime,”

    Michelle said.

“It’s a really gross story. Her son is dead, and it’s so unjust. I think there are a lot of people out there who have been served no justice for a family member or friend who died,”

    She reasoned.

‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Phyllis Sees How Much Pain Daniel Is Feeling

The actress explained that Phyllis’s friends telling her to stop pointing the finger at Sharon only makes Phyllis even more enraged. The people trying to get her to calm down and back off only make it worse for Phyllis.

“Not to mention how stung she felt by Michael agreeing to represent Sharon in the first place,”

    Stafford said.

“That Michael actually took the case is astounding to Phyllis. Like, how could he do that?”

    She asked.

“I think Phyllis can’t even wrap her head around that.”

Phyllis feels a “disconnect” with both Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc) and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow); Phyllis feels like

“nobody is understanding her side of it,”

    She said.

“She’s really coming from a genuine place,”

Stafford asserted. I’m really playing it like,

“Oh my God, a woman was murdered, and doesn’t anybody care about me and my family?”

Stafford said Phyllis sees how much pain her son is feeling and doesn’t understand how the woman who caused it is free. Sharon also confessed to the crimes, and Phyllis can’t comprehend why now she’s deciding to change her story.

Sharon told Phyllis in the December 23rd episode of Y&R that she didn’t kill Heather. However, she went to the trouble of hiding bloody towels in Daniel’s home and creating fake text messages pretending to be Heather.

Stafford has a definite connection to someone who’s been denied justice, and she’s playing every beat of the story perfectly.
