90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days David Murphey passed away at 66 years old on December 11th, 2024. David was on season 4 of the show with his long-distance girlfriend, Lana Svetlana from Ukraine.
After sending Lana gifts and getting stood up multiple times during his visits to Ukraine, the two would finally meet in person. Despite the many red flags of Lana being a scammer, David would propose to Lana, and the pair would become engaged.

Not long after, however, Lana practically ghosted David, and the pair broke up. David said Lana disliked using her phone and only wanted to chat through a paid platform where they’d met.
This culminated in fans and co-stars warning David about Lana being a scammer. In January 2021, Lana confirmed on Instagram that she and David had broken up and claimed that the engagement was solely for the show.
David and Olga on 90 Day Diaries
After several breaks from social media, David would return to the TLC spotlight for 90 Day Diaries in April 2022. During David’s segment, he would inform audiences about his new relationship with another Ukrainian woman named Olga.
David was actually talking to Olga at the same time as Lana. Once he and Lana became serious, however, he broke contact with Olga. Now with Lana out of the picture, David hoped to date Olga instead. When David attempts to call her on his phone though, she doesn’t pick up.
Despite the relationship with Olga likely going nowhere, David still wanted to go to Ukraine. David had planned to help fight in the war against Russia by applying for the Ukraine Embassy.
He had previous experience in the US Army and began training and gearing up to prepare. However, David would ultimately be denied due to lack of combat experience and for his older age of 61.
David’s Worsening Health & Passing
On December 18th, David’s family announced on his Instagram of his passing. He had passed away at home after experiencing multiple health issues for years. While his exact cause of death is currently unclear, David was diagnosed with liver cancer over a year prior.
He had also struggled with issues such as blood clots in his lungs. He had undergone about 13 surgeries in his life. Even before his passing, David was scheduled for his 14th surgery.
The post from David’s family revealed a lot about his milestones in life. These include his time as a veteran, small business owner, and software engineer. He also made it a mission to create homes for as many cats from The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas as he could. The family asks David’s fans to donate to the foundation in his name.
The death of David Murphey has been recognized by many fans, 90 Day bloggers, and co-stars alike.
David Toborowsky responded in the comments with, “I spoke to him about 6 weeks ago for a couple of hours and he was hopeful that he still had more time. May he rest in peace.” Other fans and bloggers would comment hoping for the best for David’s family and peace for David.
