On December 7th, Reddit user CuriousmomAL forwarded some sad news from Instagram user @Shabooty of Ben Rathbun having stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
According to the post, Ben is already too weak for chemotherapy and is staying with family for the rest of the time he has in Michigan. This also includes Ben’s wife Mahogany who continues to stay by his side. However, while many fans feel sympathy and wish the best for Ben and his family, others have raised some eyebrows in suspicion when remembering the couple’s recent past.

Back in November, Shabooty had also revealed that Ben was arrested for not being able to pay child support. Shabooty even informed as of late that Ben would be charged with felony embezzlement ranging from $1,000 to $20,000 from a charity that he worked for!
Putting that insane act of heartlessness aside, however, many fans quickly took notice of how different Ben looked in his mugshot. He seemed to have lost a tremendous amount of weight and overall just didn’t look very healthy.
According to the Instagram user, Ben allegedly was hiding out in Peru to avoid getting arrested and was hospitalized due to “cirrhosis of the liver.” Ben’s family would convince him to fly back to America for treatment, but was arrested on sight.
Ben is now still technically arrested but is in the hospital receiving treatment for his cancer.
Some fans though are skeptical of this cancer announcement coming so quickly after Ben’s arrest. Many claim that Ben has been a known liar and could easily be using this devastating news as a way to earn more money from sorry followers.
After all, Ben was arrested for stealing from a charity, so why not create his own and steal from the fans instead?

As messed up as it may sound to assume that Ben is scamming fans with his cancer, there are reasons for someone to believe it nonetheless. One of the most prominent of these reasons is how much Ben and Mahogany have struggled with their finances throughout their entire relationship.
It has already been documented on 90 Day Diaries when Ben sold his plasma just to make some extra cash in the hopes of paying the bills and visiting Peru again. The money troubles only got worse from there.
Ben would struggle to pay his child support to his ex-wife Lisa which only created more desperation on his end. This is what caused Ben’s initial arrest in Macomb County Michigan. However, this is not Ben’s first time being behind bars due to OUI charges back in 2022 and 2020.
According to Ben himself for his 2020 charge, he claimed that he was actually drugged by some homeless people he met on the road who offered him something to drink. Obviously, this seemed highly suspicious and the court agreed (although his act of not even showing up to his case sure didn’t help convince anyone).
Due to Ben’s multiple drunk-driving charges, fans have also suspected that Ben and his wife are substance abusers. According to some, this could explain why Ben would appear so unhealthy as of late besides the cancer. Ben has caught some criticism for preaching how faithful he is to his religion despite the obvious overuse of alcohol that he continues to deny.
