‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers suggest that the show made a huge mistake by letting go of Blaze (aka Allison Rogers, played by Jacquline Grace Lopez) and keeping Natalia Rameriz (Eva LaRue).
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: GH Is Lacking In Gay Couples
The powers-that-be apparently don’t understand that they are sending the wrong message by ditching Blaze and having her homophobic, meddling mother stay on the show.
Blaze and Kristina Corinthos-Davis‘s (Kate Mansi) relationship has been wonderful to watch. They were the only gay couple being showcased on GH.
Blaze represented not one but two heavily marginalized groups: the LGBTQ community and the Latino community.
GH obviously lacks solid gay couples. Brad Cooper (Parry Shen) and Lucas Jones (Ryan Carnes) were the last gay couple prominently featured on the show, and they broke up in February 2020.
Carnes left the show, while the last time we saw Brad, he was grieving the death of his best bud, Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud).
GH lacks diversity, which Blaze brought to the table in spades. The writers’ decision to let go of Blaze but keep Natalia was poor judgment.
The show built up Alli and Kristina just to have them break up. Although the scene between Blaze and Kristina was touching, it left many viewers heartbroken because Blaze shouldn’t have been the one to leave.
Granted, the scene between them was well-written and well-acted on the parts of Kate Mansi and Jacqueline Grace Lopez, but that still doesn’t make up for their colossal mistake.
Natalia made some ill-informed, bigoted remarks on the recording that Ava Jerome (Maura West) gave to the Invader’s editor-in-chief, Adrain DeWitt (Dieterich Gray).
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: The Show Dismissed Natalia’s Rant As “Old-Fashioned”
Calling gays “flighty” and saying that they “aren’t really serious about anything,” Natalia ranted about her real feelings about her daughter’s relationship with Kristina.
Possibly the most offensive part of her tirade was when she was referring to the LGTBQ community as “whatever alphabet soup they’re calling themselves these days.”
The show dismissed Natalia’s beliefs as “old-fashioned” rather than what they truly are: hateful and intolerant.
The worst part is that the show focused on the fact that Ava leaked the recording. This painted her as the ultimate villain rather than daring to point out that Natalia said the words.
Not to mention, the conversation took place during Pride Month. The show’s decision to keep her and send Blaze packing was beyond foolish.
The show could have accomplished so much by letting Allie and Kristina’s romance play out. There are a million different ways that the story could have gone.
Blaze could have stayed, and the show could have written a beautiful story about Allison helping Kristina deal with the loss of her child.
They had a chance to develop the relationship further, but they decided to let go of Jacquline Grace Lopez.
With Blaze gone, there is no reason for Natalia and her “old-fashioned” views to stick around. While Eva LaRue is a talented actress, Natalia is a terrible person, and not even Mr. Dimples can make her more likable.
For Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) to be so accepting of her perspective is an insult to Kristina. The show did a disservice to Ms. Lopez and the entire gay community.
